Avi’s dream of spending the last few weeks of the 1967 Summer of Love in San Francisco is shattered when a rioter on the streets of Milwaukee throws a brick through the plate glass window of his father’s store where he works. The next day when the mayor temporarily lifts the curfew, his mother sends him to the grocery store where he meets Cassie.

Assimilation is a story about love, romance, hate, bigotry, compassion, friendship, war, protest, religion, politics and growing up during a time of great optimism and turbulence.
