For Your Amusement: IT’S THE BUDGET STUPID!
My high school economics teacher was a proud fiscal conservative. He talked about how he never spent money he didn’t have. Setting aside money in a savings or investment account came first in his budget. Paying for necessities like food, shelter and clothing came next. Extravagant purchases, such as luxury automobiles, required disciplined saving. Interest on debt, whether personal, business or government was to be avoided.
Needless to say, I’ve followed the advice of my economics teacher to the letter and have amassed millions of dollars–Not! I have stuck to my budget and the only debt my wife and I have besides our mortgage is for three and a half years at three and a half percent lfor our 2018 Hyundai Elantra. No deficit spending–None!
My conservative friends claim spend thrift liberals created the national debt. It’s a good thing we have fiscal conservatives running the country. Donald Trump promised to cut wasteful programs. So, I did a little comparison between his budget and spend thrift liberal Barack Obama. Obama’s 2017 budget, his last, included $4.2 trillion in expenditures with $3.6 trillion in revenue, leaving a $600 billion dollar or 14% deficit. According to Fox Business news, Trump’s budget includes $4.8 trillion in expenditures with $3.9 trillion in revenue, leaving a $900 billion or 19% deficit. Simply put, the new budget looks to increase the deficit by a third over what it was three years ago.
“That’s because Trump had to rebuild the military,” shout the Forever Trumpers. True! His nearly $800 billion provides some of the most sophisticated missiles ever devised. At the same time, he’s cutting SNAP, the food stamp program an increasing number of homeless veterans have found themselves relying upon–but as Forever Trumpers have pointed out, “The homeless don’t vote.” Our commander-in-chief has made clear that he doesn’t consider guys who get caught, like former Navy veteran and Arizona senator, John McCain, or a bunch of guys with traumatic brain injury, which he noted is nothing more than a bad headache, or veterans who end up on the street, should be considered heroes.
No doubt some bleeding-heart spend-thrift liberal will scream the budget places a greater value on bombs than food. But if we don’t have a strong military to protect us from terrorists there won’t be any farms or farmers to grow the food or grocery stores or store clerks to sell it.
Some guys just don’t get it. The economy is strong. Who cares if personal debt has grown to its highest level in history? Who worries the national debt has grown from $19 to $23 trillion since the greatest businessman in history became president? Only a whiny bunch of socialistic-commie-Democrats, that’s who! So GIDOVAIT!

Can’t they just print more? 🙂

Of course, why didn’t I think of that? I’m sure the President will print enough to wipe out Covid-19 and stop all future pandemics before they start.
